Winter Insurance Tips: 'Tis the Season to Be Traveling!
The holidays are in full swing, and that means you've likely made plans to travel and be with family! At LW Short Insurance, we want to make sure that your sleighs get from Point A to Point B as safely as possible. That's why we're sharing some valuable tips to help you avoid common winter insurance claims. Let's dash (safely) through the snow!
Map Your Path to Grandma's House
Planning to travel when winter weather is in the forecast? One of the most crucial things you can do before leaving is plan your route. Consider holiday travel times and harsh weather before you set out, and map alternate routes in case of potential delays.
Also, let loved ones know the route you're taking and your estimated arrival time. This way, they'll know when to expect you, and when to get in touch if you haven't arrived when expected
Prep Your Tires for Snow and Ice
Bad tires and icy roads are a terrible combination. If you're planning to travel in wintry weather, make sure your tires are in good shape. It's a good idea to get winter tires made specifically to handle the elements.
Going with all-season tires instead? Be sure to check the treads. Tires with tread measurements of 2/32" or below raise your risk of an accident, and you should replace them as soon as possible before traveling.
Don't Put Your Sleigh in Cruise Control
We all know that cruise control can make a long trip easier, giving your driving foot some much-needed rest on long stretches of road. Unfortunately, using cruise control when driving in icy weather can cause you to hydroplane, which can lead to an accident.
If you're planning on cruising your sleigh to your destination, rethink that. It's tempting, but try not to use cruise control if you're traveling in winter weather. It's best for you, your passengers, and those you share the road with this holiday season!
What Would Kevin McAlister Do?
Remember the scene in Home Alone when Kevin throws a fake party (complete with cardboard standees as puppets) to thwart the Wet Bandits? You don't have to go that far, but it's a good idea to make potential burglars think you're home when you're not.
Classic light timers and smart home technology make it easier than ever to turn your lights on when you're away. Combine the two, and it's a breeze to make your house look occupied when it isn't. No puppeteering required!
Home Security You Can Control
Modern technology has made it easier than ever to keep an eye on your home while you're away. This is especially crucial during the holidays. Smart home security systems let you keep an eye on your home, no matter where you are.
These systems allow you to utilize specialized floodlight, porch, and even doorbell cameras to monitor your house. Some even offer intercom tech to help you scare thieves away before they can enter your home!
The LW Short Insurance Agency team wishes you the happiest of holidays, and safe travels this season!
