Fireworks are a fun and exciting part of any July 4th celebration. As the holiday weekend approaches, you may be debating whether to go out and enjoy a public show or have your own fireworks at home. While it may be more convenient to host your own display, fireworks can cause serious damage to people and property.
The National Fire Protection Association reports that in 2018, fireworks started an estimated 19,500, including 1,900 structure fires and 500 vehicle fires totaling $105 million in direct property damage. Fireworks were also responsible for over 9,100 hospital visits, and 1/3 of those injured were children under age 15.
Fortunately, you can leave fireworks to the pros and enjoy the public show in Myrtle Beach!
Watch The Fireworks in Myrtle Beach on July 4th!
The Independence Day fireworks show is back on for Saturday, July 4th starting at 10 PM at the Second Avenue Pier. Officials say the fireworks will be visible all up and down the beach area, so families can enjoy the show and practice safe social distancing.
Tips For Celebrating at Home
If you’d rather stay home and set off fireworks for Independence Day, follow these tips to minimize risk and keep your home and family safe from injury:
- Set up in a level place free from debris and far away from buildings and trees
- Light one firework at a time
- Keep a bucket of water or fire extinguisher handy
- Keep spectators far back from fireworks
